POSITION SUMMARY

The Painter prepares and paints walls and other surfaces found in heritage buildings, statues, etc. at the customer sites or in our Ottawa workshop using their excellent knowledge of painting material and solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES & DUTIES

  • Read blueprints/instructions and examine surfaces to determine the kind and amount of work necessary.
  • Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, removing old paint, etc.
  • Paint exterior wood windows and frames for commercial projects.
  • Fill cracks and holes with appropriate material (e.g., plaster).
  • Mix paint and other materials to prepare the right color or texture.
  • Paint surfaces according to instructions with various tools.
  • Apply varnish and other finishes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High school diploma and successful completion of an apprenticeship.

Other Experience or Training:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Painter.

Technical Skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of painting material and how to select, mix and apply them.
  • Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques.

Other Qualifications:

  • Experience in painting exterior wood windows and frames for commercial projects.
  • Aptitude in using appropriate tools (brushes, caulking guns, etc.).
  • Conscientious with great attention to detail.
  • Able to follow instructions and work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of job site safety rules and regulations (Occupational Health and Safety).
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, highly organized.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Available for overtime, when required.
  • Must be clean-shaven to be able to wear a fitted respirator up to eight hours per day.
  • Adaptable to last-minute schedule changes.
  • Willingness to complete tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Able to obtain PWGSC security clearance, including fingerprinting and a criminal record check (mandatory).
  • Clean driver’s license is an asset.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Historical Wood Restoration Technician ensures workstations are clean and safe and supports all wood shop activities.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES & DUTIES

  • Repair and fabricate heritage wood windows and doors.
  • Assist in all wood shop duties.
  • Follow heritage restoration guidelines and procedures.
  • Other responsibilities and duties, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Completion of the Heritage Carpentry and Joinery Diploma or related program is an asset.

Other Experience or Training:

  • Experience in historic wood restoration is an asset.
  • Minimum (3) years’ experience within the heritage restoration or construction industries
  • Experience using woodshop machinery and tools.
  • Experience in using basic hand tools.
  • Experience reading and analyzing technical /construction drawings.
  • Good knowledge of relevant legislation Health & Safety is a strong asset

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to read technical drawings is an asset.

Other Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, in English.
  • Ability to communicates in French is an asset.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, highly organized.
  • Ability to follow heritage restoration guidelines and procedures.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Quality Control Inspector upholds the safety regulations of our company and works with the Workshop Leaders to ensure our work meets or exceeds quality expectations by performing regular product evaluations, recording inspection results, and recommending improvements to the workshop processes.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES & DUTIES

  • Perform regular quality assessments on all incoming materials and assets from customers and outgoing assets for shipping to ensure they meet quality standards, return assets for necessary repairs at previous states of production, and tag items for rejection.
  • Create tests for quality control of products.
  • Monitor production operations to ensure conformance to customer specifications throughout the implementation of the project.
  • Work with the Metal Shop Manager and Wood Shop Leads to direct process adjustments to ensure operations reflect high quality standards and teach the production team about quality control concerns to improve product excellence.
  • Communicate the results of inspections and corrective actions to the Shop Manager/Shop Leads to resolve quality-related issues in a timely manner and maintain a tracking system with this information.
  • Reject all products and materials that fail to meet quality expectations and coordinate the corrective action with Metal Shop Manager and Wood Shop Leads.
  • Read blueprints, plans, and specifications to understand the requirements of assets and services.
  • Recommend improvements to the production process to ensure quality control.
  • Create Guidelines of Standardization, including photo documentation of unacceptable and acceptable occurrences.
  • Create quality benchmarks with timeframes for production activities.
  • Document inspection outcomes by completing non-compliance reports with corrective actions, and follow-up on these reports.
  • Support other activities as required by company requirements and management direction and perform other duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High school diploma is required.
  • College diploma, technical certification or bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Certification in quality control is a strong asset.

Other Experience or Training:

  • Proven experience as a quality control inspector is required and quality control experience in the in the same industry is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of quality control standards and testing techniques.

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and work orders.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office.
  • Good math and technical skills

Other Qualifications:

  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Good knowledge about industry products and processes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required and in French are an asset.
  • Excellent presentation and reporting skills
